Unlike other machine shops that utilize just one type of milling center, Ardel Engineering recognizes the advantages of using both horizontal and vertical milling centers. The optimal choice for your project highly depends on the machined features, volume, and shape of the part. Using both types of milling centers increases our versatility and efficiency to a level not achievable with only one mill type.

Swiss screw machining is among our core service offerings. We offer this machining service for small-diameter parts in medium to high volumes. Swiss screw machining offers several benefits over other machining and manufacturing processes, including:

Wire electrical discharge machining (EDM) is an electrothermal process of eroding material using an electrically charged wire. This process is suitable for machining conductive materials, especially high-strength alloys like tool steels, Monel, and Hastelloy™ because it preserves the original properties of the material. Using traditional milling methods to machine these materials can be difficult since they can cause rapid wear of cutting tools and work hardening during machining.

Wire EDM allows us to hold tolerances as tight as ±0.0001” on parts up to 10” in width, 12” in length, and 8” in height. In fact, wire EDM’s ability to create fine part features in hardened alloys makes it an ideal choice to machine inspection gauges, fixtures, and other profile work. These types of machining projects are usually low-volume, high-precision, and reliant on hardened materials.

At Ardel Engineering, we use our EDM machinery to create extrusion prototypes for customers to test before investing in hard tooling, which saves them from costly engineering changes and production delays. Our typical lead time for prototypes is 2-3 weeks, while production takes 4-6 weeks. If needed, we can expedite rush orders to prevent expensive downtime.
